Terminating and testing cables works at the boundary between dead construction wiring and systems that can be energised from elsewhere.

High-energy check

Treat every cable as live until proven dead at the point of work. Test voltages and back-feeds from other sections are the main exposure.

This task's main energy sources are not calculated by this tool. Use the trigger checks below and competent-person verification.

Every cable is proven dead at the point of work before conductors are touched.
The far end of every cable under work is identified and controlled.
Test voltages are applied only by an authorised person.
Barriers and signage protect others during testing.
Torque tools are calibrated and settings recorded.
Stop if a cable cannot be positively identified.
