Fire mains pressure test

Fire main acceptance testing pressurises large-diameter pipework, normally with water under NFPA 24. Air is only used as a cold-weather interim test and does not replace the hydrostatic test.
High-energy check
Treat the test as high energy along the whole main, not just at the pump. Thrust blocks and end caps are the main release points. If air is used for a cold-weather interim test instead of water, stored energy at the same pressure is far higher; use the pneumatic calculator to see the scale.
